The power of LPWAN but Mesh

The best of both worlds of IoT network communication is already here.

The new innovative WiSUN protocol allows LoRa-like range and consumption but in Xbee mesh-like network topology.

In industrial monitoring, it is very common to have scattered and high distributed sensors with low frequency of data collection. Typically installed in difficult or un-accessible locations, these sensors have to send data only in a few moments a day, but during years, with no access to external power or cellular connectivity.

Traditionally, mesh networks based on Zigbee RF protocol were the first systems developed for solving those challenges. However, the practical short range of hundreds of meters makes these systems only usable in high sensor-dense use cases.

The emerging IoT LPWAN protocols such as LoRa, improved the scope of applications since the range is couple of times longer. However, the star topology limits the applications to the ones where the nodes are in the range of the power-connected Gateways on the area. So, tunnels, dams galleries, underground mining or even complex urban geometries are the limits of LoRa applications.

But now both issues are solved!
